We have just returned from our long vacation. We attempted with 2 kids under 5 years old and we survived!! I feel I’m just plain lucky. Let me share why.
This time round, we went to Greece via Emirates Airline with not one but 2 kids under 5 years old. Sophie will be turning four in November while Alfie just turned 3 months old. I’m not going to paint a rosy picture here. But bringing the kids out on long distance vacation is definitely not a walk in the park.
Just right before the big trip, I began to have self-doubt. After travelling with Sophie for the past 3 years, things were beginning to get easier for us when out came this little one. It felt that we were back to square one again. The most worrying issue was his sleep. We got it lucky for Sophie that she managed to sleep on the bassinet. But did we get second time lucky?
I guess we did.
On the journey, Emirates was very attentive to our every needs. Everything that they do, they would explain or inform us before it was being implemented. Such as giving us the infant belt and the baby bassinet. On our first leg to to Dubai, I remembered requesting for warm water for Sophie’s milk. The flight attandant asked if we needed additional water for ourselves. This was before they started flying.
Sophie was at an age where her sleep has regulated while Alfie is still napping and feeding round the clock. Probably due to his small frame, the bassinet was very comfortable for him. Therefore, Alfie slept through most of the journey. The layover at Dubai was approximately 6 hours. Due to the short journey (7 hours from Singapore to dubai) we were very tired. We checked into a sleep lounge in Dubai and Alfie slept through it on the lounger which could fit the two of us while Hubby and Sophie each occupied one.
I’m not going to jinx it but Alfie probably slept much better than I had expected. Except for waking up to have his feeds, he was a rather easy baby despite the loud noises and enclosed spaces. We do not have any special formulas to share. Except that we try to bring his personal items such as his pillow and blanket.
Before this trip, I was filled with lots of anxiety. Because for the first 2 days we would travel non stop for 29 hours just to reach our first stop, the island of Crete. I kept wondering if we made a right choice by travelling but I guess my worries were unfounded.
